(Target Audience: High School Students - Particularly Seniors)
The VoTexas curriculum educates students about voting and the electoral process. The curriculum contains six Model Lesson Plans for implementation in classrooms and is designed for senior high school students.
The curriculum, which is nonpartisan, covers the following topics: (1) History of the Right to Vote, (2) History of Voter Registration, (3) Candidate Research and Preparation for Mock Debate, (4) Political Parties and Primaries, (5) Mock Debate and (6) Mock Election. The lessons cover several components of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for social studies. The Project uses a hands-on approach to teach the students about the parties, candidates, and issues. It includes mock candidate debates and mock election.
