TYLA local affiliates do so much around the State and we would like to hear more from you. As my former boss at Dewalt used to say, “If you don't toot your own horn, no one else will.” So, please toot your own horn. So often we hear about the great projects from some of our larger affiliates (which we want to continue), but we know there is so much more going on around the State. For example, in Galveston the young lawyers association provided three college scholarships at their annual Law Day Celebration. This would make a great e-news Local Affiliate article and these are easy to submit; just email TYLA, Ken Riney at Ken.Riney@hsblaw.com, Kristi Piazza at kristy@koonsfuller.com or myself at bulrickson@browndean.com.
More ways for individual young lawyers to become involved and help promote their own practice is to write articles of interest for e-News, film a Ten Minute Mentor program, film a Ten Minute Mentor Goes to Law School segment, or join a TYLA committee. In fact, on the TYLA Family Law/Seniors/Children's Rights Committee and the Law Student Outreach Committee, there are more than 15 non-board members already involved. The non-board member involvement, e-News articles and ten-minute segments can always be highlighted on your website and the articles and taped segments can be linked to your website, provide you with publications and could lead to speaking engagements. Plus, they assist the lawyers and law students throughout Texas!
Finally, don't forget that TYLA is always looking for new ideas for projects, groups that we could assist and partner with on projects and TYLA provides a plethora of information for lawyers, law students and the public. Some of TYLA projects available include: Ten Minute Mentor, Hanging Out Your Own Shingle, Survival Guide for Young Lawyers, Kids in the Crossfire, Legal Guide for Cancer Patients, Landlord-Tenant Guide and American Juror. To view all the projects visit www.tyla.org .
Thanks for everything you continue to do for the bar and the communities around the State. We hope to hear you tooting your own horn soon!
