In the spirit of continuing to improve and expand on already great service projects, the Texas Young Lawyers Association is pleased to announce the addition of “Ten Minute Mentor Goes to Law School ” to its Ten Minute Mentor website. The new section will be specifically geared toward the concerns and questions of law students and those planning to attend law school.

Ten Minute Mentor is a collection of short videos on various topics presented by attorneys in their area of expertise. The videos are no longer than ten minutes and give helpful advice or information about the topic. The videos are posted on-line and are searchable by topic or by speaker.

The new section, “Ten Minute Mentor Goes to Law School ,” will address dozens of topics and provide answers from those most qualified to give advice. Professors and third year law students will discuss how to survive and thrive in law school. Attorneys specializing in various practice areas will give the secrets to their success and how they got from their first year to where they are now. The initial law student topics will include “1L Year: The Good, Bad and Ugly”; “Surviving the Socratic Method”; “Clerkships and Internships”; “To Journal or Not to Journal”; “How Helpful are Pre-Law Courses?”; “Law Clinics”; “Avoiding the Student Loan Pit”; “Law School Extracurriculars”; and “Finding Your Passion.” Eventually, the section will grow to include dozens of topics to assist law students with any questions they might have about the process of becoming a successful lawyer.

The Ten Minute Mentor Committee plans to roll out the first Ten Minute Mentor Goes to Law School videos by November 1, 2008 and will add videos from students, professors and lawyers throughout the year. While some speakers have already been selected, the committee will continue to recruit speakers throughout the year and schedule taping sessions during TexasBarCLE seminars around the state. The committee is looking for anyone who has successfully navigated through law school and may have some words of wisdom for those still on their journey to becoming lawyers.
