What is Lawyers as Leaders?

Lawyers as Leaders is a special effort of the Texas Young Lawyers Association -- the public service arm of the State Bar of Texas, with a membership of over 22,000 young lawyers across the state -- to encourage and assist young lawyers across Texas in volunteering with their local nonprofit and community service organizations. Lawyers As Leaders seeks to connect young lawyers interested in volunteering with nonprofits and community service organizations with whom they can make a positive contribution.

Calling all Non-Profit and Community Service Organizations! Post your volunteer opportunities here!

TYLA invites Texas' qualifying nonprofit and community service organizations to submit information about their volunteer service opportunities and needs for posting on the new website. Information may be submitted either online, through the web page portal, www.tyla.org/leaders, or on the paper form below, which can be faxed or mailed to the TYLA offices. For security purposes, the TYLA staff will be required to approve any posting before it goes live on the website.
Once your posting goes live on the website, information about your volunteer service opportunities will be automatically communicated to young lawyers through two means:

  • Young lawyers will be able to search the website based on location and areas of volunteer interest. Once a young lawyer selects an organization to assist or would like additional information, an e-mail will automatically be sent to the organization. Once that person signs up to help the group, documentation will be maintained to ensure that the group's needs are being met and that volunteer lawyers are making a difference.
  • When a nonprofit or community service organization initially posts information, young lawyers who are seeking volunteer opportunities in the area that is serviced by the group will be notified by e-mail.

What benefits can TYLA members bring to my organization?

The contributions of young lawyers go far beyond providing needed legal advice. These volunteers may also lend a general legal perspective on management or financial issues - a good asset for board members - and benefit the organization through their writing, reading or speaking ability, intelligence, enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference through service. Given all that, who wouldn't want their help?
