TIPS FOR YOUNG LAWYERS
When I first got out of law school and started my practice, some of the best advice I received from an older attorney in town was: "Spend some time at the courthouse and get to know the people that work in judge's offices, the district clerk's office, and the county clerk's office." So, I did just that, and whenever I go to a new courthouse to try a case, I make a special effort to introduce myself to the various courthouse employees. (more)

    Welcome to the first e-newsletter of the Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA). Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! Before you hit the delete key, just hear me out. You are receiving this e-newsletter because you are among an elite class of people - you are a Texas young lawyer. We are a group of over 22,000 strong. You probably didn't know this, but you are automatically a member of TYLA if you are licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and 36 or under or within 3 years of licensure. TYLA is often referred to as the"public service arm" of the State Bar of Texas.

LOCAL AFFILIATE FEATURED LEADER

This month's featured leader is Christina Melton Crain, the president of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. Christina is a third generation Dallasite. She attended Kimball High School, graduating in 1984. Christina attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she received a B.A. in Government. After earning her J.D. in 1991 from Oklahoma City University School of Law, Christina went to work as an associate at Nichols, Jackson, Hager & Smith, L.L.P. After Nichols, she was a name partner in Kirk, Griffin & Melton, L.L.P from 1994 until 1996. (more)
