TYLA FEATURED PROJECT

TYLA's “It Could Be You” School Crime Prevention Project Ready To Be Launched
By Jennifer Litke - It is 7:55 a.m. when Laura arrives on campus to begin her school day. Her first stop is to see David, a member of a school gang and known drug dealer. Laura does not realize that her friend Rebecca oversees her buying drugs from David. Afterwards, Rebecca questions Laura about her meeting with David, but Laura is unwilling to talk to Rebecca. Later that morning, in the school restroom, Laura pops the pills she has purchased from David. Two hours later, Laura overdoses and is pronounced dead on arrival.... Could Rebecca have done something to prevent Laura's death?... This is one of the questions students participating in the new TYLA program “It Could Be You - Speak Out Against Crime In Your School.” (continued)

LOCAL AFFILIATE FEATURED LEADER

This month's featured leader is Reid A. Nelson Reid is the current President of the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association (SAYLA). Although Reid has big shoes to fill as SAYLA's President, Reid continues to build upon the success of his predecessors, most recently Marty Truss and Zack Aoki, by expanding and strengthening SAYLA's service to its members and to the San Antonio community. Going Solo
By Carol McCord - If you are seriously contemplating “going solo” or starting a small firm, do your homework first. Law school may have honed your skills as a legal advocate but it probably lacked substantive training in areas involving day-to-day management situations. The State Bar of Texas currently offers an extensive program that walks you through various issues you may encounter in developing your practice. (more)

Simplify
By Gindi Eckel - Will Rogers once said, “The minute you read something you don't understand, you can be almost sure it was drawn up by a lawyer.” Kafka defined our professional attitude as, “Lawyers: persons who write a 10,000 word document and call it a brief.” (more)
