Sunset of the State Bar of Texas, tort reform and judicial independence are topping the list of issues that will impact us as lawyers. The time is now for you, as a Texas young lawyer, to become a voice in this process.

LOCAL AFFILIATE FEATURED LEADER

This month's featured leader is John Anaipakos, HYLA - One of my true pleasures in life is meeting people, especially those who have roots in my hometown, El Paso, Texas. In my mind, John is the epitome of the American dream. (more)

Developing Good Habits in the Season of Giving
by Robert J. Witte - As the holidays approach, we can reflect upon all that we have received over the past year in our personal and professional lives. As beneficiaries of life's many blessings, and as members of the legal profession, we have the opportunity to set an example for our friends and colleagues by playing an active role in this season of giving. For some, giving entails a monetary contribution. For others, giving includes an investment of time and talent. Whatever "giving" means to you, let this season inspire you to make a difference not only now, but in the years to come. The benefit and satisfaction you receive in return will place your law practice in a proper perspective that will not only make you a better person, but a better lawyer. (more)

Uh-Oh, Is That Lease Guaranteed?
By Marcelo Rivera. - Leases are often guaranteed by an individual or by a parent company of the tenant. Such guarantees are very important to the landlord, especially if the tenant is a shell corporation or has limited net worth. Extra care should be taken, however, when guaranties are involved.
