    March Madness
    By Rebecca Vela

    Rebecca Vela

It certainly seems that March Madness is truly abundant throughout our state and our nation. But, I'm not talking about the basketball games that are typically associated with March Madness. I'm talking about the “madness” that has occurred as a result of the downturn in our economy. (Cont.)

Attorney Ad Litem For The Injured Minor
    By Corey D. McGaha

We all know personal injury settlements prior to litigation that compensate injured adults are relatively simple: sign the release, sign the settlement agreement, receive the money. When a hurt child seeks compensation for personal injury, the process becomes more complicated. If the injured child's claim is settled pre-litigation, a lawsuit must still be filed – the “friendly suit.” There is no need for discovery in the friendly suit. The suit proceeds directly to the Court's approval of the settlement. (Cont.)

Please email the TYLA office if there are any changes to your local affiliates contact information.

If your affiliate has an upcoming event that you would like featured in eNews, please forward the information to Bree Trevino or contact eNews Co-Chairs Brad Allen, Ken Riney or Rebecca Vela.

The Importance of Social Networking to Today's Young Lawyer
    By David Courreges

    David Courreges

I remember when the internet came to the Courreges household. It was December 1993, I had just installed a sweet 1800 bit/s modem on my brand new Compaq Presario, and I could not wait to try out this new AOL 1.5 that I just got for free in the mail. After thirty minutes of listening to the agonizing pinging and scratching of the modem as it struggled to connect, I could not anticipate that the four words that I was about to hear come out of my computer's speakers would change my life forever. “Welcome! You've got mail!” From that point on, I was introduced to a universe of instant messaging, interest groups, chat rooms, email, on-line profiles, and espn.com; the world was at my finger tips! In fact, now that I think about it, I was then engaging in my first-ever online social networking experience, and it was my very first time online! (Cont.)

    ABA DELEGATE APPLICATIONS SOUGHT
The Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas has adopted a procedure to ensure diversity in the State Bar's delegation to the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association. The House of Delegates is the policy making body of the ABA . Members serve two-year terms and no person may serve as a delegate of the State Bar for more than six consecutive years.

Appointments, which will include the President-elect, President-elect designee and the President of the State Bar, will be approved by the Board of Directors. The deadline for receipt of applications is by 5:00 p.m. on April 1, 2009.
