Court Interpreters: What Every Litigator Should Know
    by Rabecca Cross

    Rabecca Cross

Both federal and Texas state law require qualified interpreters for criminal defendants who cannot speak English. In addition, civil litigants in Texas are often in need of interpreters, as are jurors. As a result, a Texas litigator who spends any significant amount of time inside the courtroom will eventually encounter a court interpreter. Many litigators, however have little more than a cursory understanding of the court interpreter's role. A skilled trial attorney should have a basic background knowledge of a court interpreter's function. (Cont.)
