on Corpus Christi YLA projects |

The
TYLA board of directors held its
second meeting of the year November
11-12, 2005, at the Westin Oaks
Hotel in Houston. The hotel is
conveniently attached to the Galleria
Mall where the ice rink, early
holiday shoppers, and beautiful
decorations quickly put everyone
in the holiday spirit. Courtroom
Technologies Incorporated
provided yummy welcome bags in
each hotel room (including an
opportunity to win lots of shopping
money with scratch off lottery
tickets).
Distinguished
Guests:
TYLA local affiliate leaders were
invited to attend the meeting
and share news of the great works
being done by young lawyers in
their respective regions of the
State. (Cont.)

YLA |

Rebecca
Cousins Brightwell is blazing
a new trail. She and other young
lawyers in the East Texas Pineywoods
have banded together to form the
East Texas Young Lawyers Association
(“ETYLA”) made up
of young lawyers in Shelby, Nacogdoches
and Angelina Counties. Why? As
Rebecca succinctly puts it “There
are a lot of young lawyers in
our area of Texas, but no avenue
to get together professionally
and socially.” Before forming
ETYLA, the closest TYLA affiliate
was located in either Tyler or
Beaumont. With an increase in
the population of young lawyers
in the area, the timing was right
to establish a local young lawyers
association. (Cont.)
Spring
is just around the corner, and for
Bar associations that generally
means election time. How does that
impact you? As a lawyer it is your
opportunity either to select who
will lead your Bar association or
to step into a leadership role and
run for office. In either case,
you should be aware of nomination
and ballot deadlines. This article
provides essential information and
election timelines for upcoming
TYLA and ABA-YLD elections.

Are
you buried under an avalanche
of email? Do you lose important
information hiding among the emails
clogging your inbox? Here are
10 tips for digging out of the
email avalanche. These tips reference
features available in Outlook,
but most email programs
have similar features.
Use
automated features to sort your
emails into folders as they arrive.
The Outlook Rules Wizard (under
Tools) will let you create rules
for automated sorting of incoming
emails by sender, subject, text
and other filters. Incoming messages
are routed to the designated folders,
which change to bold print to
indicate an unread message. Set
up folders (select File, New,
Folder) for your clients so that
you can see at a glance that you
have email from them, and keep
all your correspondence together.(Cont.)
