    Young Lawyers Giving Back
    to Communities During the Holidays

They're doing it again! Each year about this time, local young lawyer organizations redouble their efforts to give back to their communities. In addition to the community service projects that local affiliates provide to their towns year- round, young lawyers like you find a way to give even more of their time during the busy holiday season. Here's a look at what community-minded lawyers are doing this month: (continued)

    Featured Local Affiliate Leader
    Alyson Dietrich, Collin County YLA

Alyson Dietrich, December's featured Texas young lawyer, hails from Collin County, just north of Dallas for those of you not familiar with North Texas geography. When not indulging in a little globetrotting, Dietrich is working hard and wearing the white hat at work as a felony prosecutor with the Collin County District Attorney's Office and as the vice president of the Collin County Young Lawyers Association (CCYLA). Dietrich's professionalism, bar service, and diverse interests earned her the distinction of this month's featured leader. (continued)

The Texas Off Campus Recruitment Program -
The Best Kept Recruiting Secret for Firms Looking at Texas Law Schools

The Texas Off-Campus Recruitment Program is a unique recruiting opportunity for employers seeking to hire law students for summer clerkships or new associate positions. All nine Texas law schools participate in the program, which allows employers a one-stop shopping opportunity to interview law students from Baylor, St. Mary's, South Texas College of Law, SMU-Dedman,TSU-Thurgood Marshall, Texas Tech, Texas Wesleyan, University of Houston Law Center, and the University of Texas.

Whether this is used as the only recruiting tool or a supplement to a formalized, annual recruitment program, employers will find this a superb opportunity to interview a wide range of candidates at minimal expense and with a minimal investment of time. This year's Employer Registration deadline is January 8, 2004. (more info)

    The Faces of TYLA

Every month, the eNews features a project developed by TYLA to show what your association is doing for you (our members) or for Texas communities through public service. The eNews also features local young lawyer leaders across the state who are not on the TYLA Board, but this newsletter has never shown you some of the hard workers behind the scenes at TYLA. This month we are proud to highlight some of the behind-the-scenes folks who helped get a few special projects off the ground. (continued)

    Take Time to Say Thanks!
    By Gindi Eckel
    -

Okay, so I just got back from Italy. And when I say, "just got back," I mean it. I'm suffering a severe case of jet lag as I type. Over the course of the trip, which was absolutely wonderful, my friend and I would occassionally play this little game. While the game went without name, it could have well been entitled: "What I Miss From Home." Embarrassingly, the game winner was something between the bottomless cup of coffee/to-go cups, and streets that don't change names every block. (Boy, could I get turned around in Rome!)

About nine days into the trip, I was riding the train from Florence to Venice and realized that it was THANKSGIVING! No family to talk to, no turkey to gorge on, and no Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Heck, it took me half the day to even realize what day it was. It was such a weird feeling--I have never been away from my family or America on Thanksgiving or Christmas. (continued)
